Broadband in Our Future?

Updated: Apr 2, 2020

It may seem a little odd to have a conversation now about the importance of Broadband in our community. This is the time to begin to understand the incredible effect of having a proper Broadband infrastructure will have on the future of our citizens including children, family and senior citizens.

When we look at at the current shortcomings of the current infrastructure, every town in the district including Bridgton, Harrison and Denmark, has reported significant portions of their towns as having a lack of access to the internet. Undoubtedly the current Convid crisis emphasizes why we need a better system. The rural nature of our communities shows the necessity of having better access to provide for better educational opportunities, health care accessibility and safety of our senior citizens.

The importance of this issues has not gone unnoticed. Thanks to the efforts of Linda LaCroix, Director of Community Development of Bridgton, and others, a group is being assembled to not only review previous studies, but to move the process forward by implementing some recommendations. No doubt there could be a significant initial investment, but it will reap incredible social and economic benefits for the future. We owe it to our future generations.
